How to Increase Muscle Strength
Most people equate muscle size with muscle strength. While it’s true that weaker muscles are smaller than stronger ones, they don’t have Schwarzenegger like monstrosities to be strong.
Most body builders focus on bigger muscles. They isolate individual muscles using various machines and contraptions. That may be right for bigger muscles, but if you want to know how to increase muscle strength, your approach is going to be radically different.
Strength training is more of a balanced approach combining weight training with flexibility exercises and aerobic activity. That makes the muscles more functional instead of just puffed up.
An aerobic workout done regularly brings more oxygen into the body and also results in stronger heart and lungs. This also increases stamina and endurance, among numerous other health benefits. So, an aerobic activity like running, jogging, swimming or cycling must be part of any proper strength training program.
To increase muscle strength, you also need to train your muscles using free weights. Machines, as opposed to free weights, isolate muscle groups. Free weights (such as dumbbells, kettles or barbells) on the other hand, work on a group of muscles.
An alternative to free weights is bodyweight exercises. These are strength training exercises where the body’s own weight is the source of the resistance. Athletes who know how to increase muscle strength regularly do pull ups, pushups and sit ups. These are very popular and effective bodyweight exercises.
In addition to aerobic activity and weight training, strength trainers also incorporate a fair deal of stretching into their workouts. Some start their training sessions with stretches, some end it with them. Stretching increases flexibility of the muscles and improves a person’s sense of balance.
If you don’t know how to increase muscle strength, its best to hire a professional trainer who will help set the program for you and aid you in properly doing the exercises.
If doing it yourself, proper care must be taken to work out all muscle groups regularly or you could suffer from muscle imbalances. And remember, eat well and drink plenty of water. Your body will need it.
